Contract Work for Disney’s Frozen:

Costume Designer

We are looking for a creative Costume Designer to create clothes and costume pieces for our upcoming production of Disney’s Frozen. You are part of the design team and your work helps set the tone of the story and enhances the actor’s performance. As costume designer, you must be creative and well-versed in different garment types and styles, a talented sketcher, and see costume design as an art form. You will work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to create the best visual effect. There will be a separate puppet designer and you will only be responsible for costuming the puppeteers, not the puppets.

Responsibilities

  • Study script to understand costume requirements in terms of setting, era, and character attributes
  • Perform research on historical periods and different regions
  • Develop costume plots for characters
  • Create preliminary sketches of costumes and present them for approval
  • Produce the final designs with fabrics, styles and colors
  • Work with costume shop supervisor and three stitchers to materialize sketches
  • Procure ready-made costumes when necessary
  • Ensure costumes stay within budget
  • Supervise fittings and attend designer run and dress rehearsals
  • Provide rehearsal garments if asked by the production team
  • Assume responsibility of returning, storing, or disposing of used costumes after closing

Skills

  • Proven experience as costume designer or similar role
  • Knowledge of design, sewing, and textiles
  • Understanding of a range of styles and cultural/historical elements
  • Aptitude in research
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Creativity and attention to detail
  • Well-organized and reliable
  • Must be proficient or a least experienced in Google Suite
  • High school diploma; degree in costume design, fashion design or relevant field is preferred; equivalent experience in the field is comparable.

We are unable to provide housing or any kind of travel stipend. The pay is a non-negotiable contract for labor at $2,500.00.

Job hours are flexible, however, there is a timeline and goals must be met along the way. You will have access to the Palace costume shop or you can work at home, as long as communication stays open.

Production meetings for the design team are mandatory and take place at the Palace. Meeting schedule dates are set when the full team is in place. There will always be a virtual option for the earlier meetings.

The Palace has employed a wig stylist for this production to assist the costume designer in the overall look.

The Palace doesn’t usually employ a makeup designer, so the costume designer will be asked to help in that area to enhance the look of the overall character in costume.

The costume designer is required to attend the first read thru to gather measurements for the cast.

Expected first rehearsal: Sept. 29, 2025
