Sweet Charity Audition Information
The Georgetown Palace will hold auditions for our production of Sweet Charity
Director: Jessie Drollette
Choreographer: Courtney Wissinger Eiland
Music Director: Leah Knight
Stage Manager: Cristina Skinner
The production will open Friday, March 13th and close April 5th.
About the Musical: “Inspired by Federico Fellini’s Nights of Cabiria, Sweet Charity explores the turbulent love life of Charity Hope Valentine, a hopelessly romantic but comically unfortunate dance hall hostess in New York City. With a tuneful, groovy, mid-1960s score by Cy Coleman, sparkling lyrics by Dorothy Fields, and a hilarious book by Neil Simon, Sweet Charity captures all the energy, humor, and heartbreak of Life in the Big City for an unfortunate but irrepressible optimist. Musical numbers include: “Big Spender,” “If My Friends Could See Me Now,” “There’s Gotta Be Something Better Than This,” “I’m a Brass Band” and “Baby, Dream Your Dream.”
Casting calls for 8 principle characters (4 male & 4 female) with an ensemble of 22-24. The ensemble cast is super important to the world of this show, will sing, dance and act. This is a dance-heavy show (think Fosse…) and we are looking for strong dancers, but we are hoping for dancers of all abilities to audition. We will also be casting males as dance hall boys. Every character in this show is pivotal to the story and the success of this production. All shapes, all sizes, all people are encouraged and welcome to audition. We will be casting on ability and stage presence.
Please do note that we will not be casting any under the age of 18, as the play has adult themes and situations.
Auditions will be held Sunday, Dec 15th, through Wednesday, Dec 18th. Dance auditions will be on Sunday. Singing auditions on Monday and Tuesday and Callbacks on Wednesday from 7:00-10:00 pm and Wednesday from 6:30 to 10:30 pm.
You must attend the dance audition to be considered for any role in the production. Please bring jazz AND character shoes, dress to move, and be ready to learn a combination.
Audition Format: Dance auditions are SUNDAY in two sessions 6:00-7:20 pm (Monday auditioners) and 7:30-9:00 (Tuesday auditioners). Singing auditions will be on Monday and Tuesday, and auditioners will be asked to sing 16 bars of a song of their choice as well as a selected side from the character breakdown.
Auditions are located in the Palace Education Center Studio 220 W 9th Street Georgetown TX 78626.
Callbacks will be by invitation only and held Wednesday, Dec 18th, starting at 6:30 pm. Callbacks are posted on the palace website, not via email.
