Friends, We’re excited to announce the auditions for Newsies, the Broadway Musical, at the Palace Theater starting June 15th! This is going to be a heck of a grand time, with all the amazing dance and rallying songs you’ve come to expect from this much-loved show. I’m also happy to share that we have a lot of experience and talent already involved, with Jesee Smart choreographing, David Blackburn musical directing, and Jessie Drollette stage managing our romp though 1899 New York City.
Audition details are below, but I do want to mention that Newsies is an extremely high-energy and physical show. We will be pushing you to bring it on the dances if you’re cast as one of the newsies. We’re looking for performers who are ready and willing to work, whose enthusiasm is infectious, and characterization genuine. There’s lots of opportunity here for you to show off your character’s personality, and these songs are really set up to pick up the audience and carry them along with you on this journey. You’ll be working hard, but the payoff is going to be awesome! The team is looking for 25-26 high energy actors, male or female to portray these characters.
Auditions will be held Saturday, June 15th from 2:00-5:30 pm, Sunday, June 16th from 6:00- 10:00 pm, with Dance Auditions on Monday, Dec 17th from 7:00-10:00 pm. (Saturday Auditioners from 7:00 – 8:25 Sunday auditioners from 8:35-10:00 pm. Everyone is required to attend the dance audition. Auditions are on the Springer Stage 810 S Austin Ave
Auditions on Saturday and Sunday will consist of singing a selected vocal side from the show, as well as preparing one of the indicated acting sides. It’d be great if it were memorized, but we’ll take prepared with script in hand.
All auditioning for this production must attend the dance call. Please wear form fitted clothing you can move in, make sure your hair is pulled back away from your face, and bring your dance shoes (jazz or character are preferred, sneakers are acceptable; if you have tap shoes, please bring them). You will be taught two dance combinations one jazz and one tap. All those who want to be considered for the role of a “Newsie” must learn both the jazz and tap combinations. You will be taught both combinations and then asked to perform them in small groups. Please arrive a few minutes early to stretch as there will not be a group warm up for auditions.
Callbacks will be by invitation only and held Tuesday, June 18th, starting at 6:30 pm. Callbacks are posted on the palace website, not via email.
Auditions are scheduled online via the Palace website. You will fill out the audition form, sign up for a time, and fill out the conflict calendar, as well as upload a headshot and resume. any questions should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please do NOT pm the production team!
You will receive an email confirming your appointment. If you are unable to attend any of the audition times, please send productions an email and we will try to work with you to schedule an alternative time.
