The Marvelous Wonderettes Audition Information
The Georgetown Palace will hold auditions June 8, thru June 10th
Director and Music Director: Cliff Butler
Choreographer: Kendra Christel
The production will open Friday, August 20th, 2021, and close Sunday, September 12th.
The Marvelous Wonderettes is a cotton-candy-colored, non-stop pop musical. It takes the audience to the
1958 Springfield High School prom where we meet the Wonderettes – four girls with hopes and dreams as
big as their crinoline skirts and voices to match. We learn about their lives and loves accompanied by the
girls performing classic ‘50’s and ‘60s’ pop songs. The second act takes place 10 years later. Original Cast
Album on PS Classics has great source material.
The girls should all sing in a bright, old-fashioned pop-belt style – no modern trills and thrills. Listen to
Connie Francis, Doris Day, The Chordettes & The McGuire Sisters for act one styles; listen to Dusty
Springfield, Lesley Gore, The Shangri-Las & Betty Everett for act two styles. Old-school comedy skills
Do not play the stereotype. Do not play the big hair. Do not play dress-up. These girls need to become real
best friends, and their concerns, struggles, hopes, and dreams must be real. Sincerity is the key.
Initial auditions will be via video submissions with in-person, socially distant callbacks. Video submissions are due by Monday, June 7th at 7:00 pm. Auditioners are expected to submit separate singing and dance videos. Audition songs/sides/harmonies for callbacks are posted HERE on the character breakdown page.
