Bobby Child: Tenor/baritone (A3-F4); playing age 20’s-30’s; male presenting.
Bobby is a New Yorker in love with musical theatre, but is forced to work in a bank by his controlling mother. When he goes to Deadrock to foreclose on a property, he meets Polly, falls instantly in love with her, and decides to put on a show to pay off the mortgage on her father’s theatre. After Polly rejects him, he entices the Zangler Follies Girls to come to Deadrock and disguises himself as Bella Zangler, the established producer. Strong singer and dancer (ballroom and tap); fake Hungarian accent. Kisses Polly, Irene
Polly Baker: Mezzo-soprano (Ab4-Eb5); playing age 20’s-30’s; female presenting.
Polly is the only available female in Deadrock where she is the postmistress and tough as nails cowgirl, relentlessly pursued by Lank Hawkins to marry him. She quickly falls for Bobby until she discovers that he is from the bank about to foreclose on her father’s theatre. Then she falls for a man she thinks is successful New York producer Bela Zangler (actually he’s Bobby in disguise). Spoiler alert: true love prevails and she and Bobby end up together. Bela Zangler: Baritone (B3-F4); playing age 30’s-50’s; male presenting.
Zangler is an established New York musical producer and theatre owner. He follows Tess, his dance director and subject of his affections, to Deadrock. He has a very funny drunk scene/duet with “himself” (Bobby disguised as Zangler). Strong character actor; Hungarian accent. Kisses Polly, Tessie
Irene Roth: Mezzo-soprano (Ab4-Bb5); playing age 20’s-30’s; female presenting.
New York society debutante and Bobby’s domineering fiancée who follows him to Deadrock, but finally accepts the fact that Bobby will never marry her because he loves Polly. Irene then sets her sights on Lank Hawkins, the local saloon/hotel owner, whom she seduces with her “naughty baby” persona. Strong character actor with a good belt. Kisses Bobby, Lank
Lank Hawkins: Baritone (E3-G3); playing age 20’s-40’s; male presenting.
Lank is the high strung owner of the Deadrock Saloon and Hotel who wants to buy the Deadrock theatre from Polly’s father. Lank is desperately trying to get Polly to marry him… until Irene enters the picture and literally takes control of him. Kisses Irene
Everett Baker: Baritone (Db3-Db4); playing age 50’s-60’s; male presenting.
Polly’s father and owner of Deadrock’s Gaiety Theatre who’s constantly reminiscing about Polly’s mother performing in their theatre… until he falls instantly in love with Bobby’s mother when she arrives in Deadrock.
Mother (Mrs. Lottie Child): Non-singing; playing age 50’s-60’s; female presenting.
Bobby’s business-orientated and very controlling mother who wants him to forego his dreams of dancing in musical theatre and make a career with the bank. She is a very bossy and overbearing woman… until she arrives in Deadrock and falls instantly in love with Polly’s father. Strong character actor; may double as one of the Deadrock townspeople.
Patricia Fodor: Soprano (Eb4-F5); playing age 30’s-50’s; female presenting.
An English tourist who, along with her brother, is writing a guide book to the American West. They arrive in Deadrock to review Lank’s Hotel and get caught up in the craziness. British accent.
Eugene Fodor: Tenor/baritone (D3-F4); playing age 30’s-40’s; male presenting.
An English tourist who, along with his sister, is writing a guide book to the American West. They arrive in Deadrock to review Lank’s Hotel and get caught up in the craziness. British accent.
Tess: Soprano or alto; playing age 20’s-30’s; female presenting.
The Zangler Follies dance director who is pursued by Zangler even though he is married. Tess helps Bobby pull off his plan to disguise himself as Zangler and win over Polly. Strong dancer. Kissed By Bela
Patsy: Soprano or alto; playing age 20’s-30’s; female presenting.
The quintessential “ditzy blonde” Follies Girl, Patsy is charged with trying to teach the Deadrock cowboys how to dance. Strong dancer.
Cowboy Trio: Barbershop-style harmonies; any age; male presenting.
The Cowboy Trio is featured throughout the show (much like the Barbershop Quartet in The Music Man). The characters’ vocal breakdown is: Mingo (high-tenor); Sam (tenor); Moose (Bari-tenor). Strong part-singing skills.
Deadrock Cowboys: Tenors/baritones; any age; male presenting.
(Pete, Wyatt, Junior, Custus, Billy, Harry, Jimmy)
Serve as the male singing/dancing ensemble for the show; each character has featured moments. May also double as New Yorkers, Perkins, and Chauffer for the scenes that take place in New York.
Follies Girls: Sopranos/altos; playing ages 20’s-30’s; female presenting.
(Elaine, Betsy, Louise, Margie, Sheila, Mitzi, Vera)
