Our Magnificent Mischievous Magical '22-'23 Season at the Palace

CABARET
OCTOBER 7 - NOVEMBER 6, 2022
SPRINGER STAGE
The Kit Kat Klub in 1930s Berlin is where beguiling, self-destructive chanteuse Sally Bowles lives with no thought for tomorrow. The decadence of the Weimar nightclub, under the sway of its magnificent and flamboyant Emcee, becomes a shattered mirror reflecting a society spiraling toward disaster with the rise of Hitler’s Nazis.
The Daily Telegraph of London called Cabaret “a daring and great musical that combines unforgettable songs with genuinely gripping and disturbing drama.” The Los Angeles Times says it is “eternally captivating.”

The Red Velvet Cake War
October 14 - November 13, 2022
Palace Playhouse
THE RED VELVET CAKE WAR is a riotously funny Southern-fried comedy by ever the popular Jones-Hope-Wooten. The three Verdeen cousins—Gaynelle, Peaches, and Jimmie Wyvette—could not have picked a worse time to throw their family reunion. Their outrageous antics have delighted local gossips in the small town of Sweetgum (just down the road from Fayro) and the eyes of Texas are upon them, as their self-righteous Aunt LaMerle is quick to point out. Having “accidentally” crashed her minivan through the bedroom wall of her husband’s girlfriend’s doublewide, Gaynelle is one frazzled nerve away from a spectacular meltdown. Peaches, a saucy firebrand and the number one mortuarial cosmetologist in the tri-county area, is struggling to decide if it’s time to have her long-absent trucker husband declared dead. And Jimmie Wyvette, the rough-around-the-edges store manager of Whatley’s Western Wear, is resorting to extreme measures to outmaneuver a priss-pot neighbor for the affections of Sweetgum’s newest widower. But the cousins can’t back out of the reunion now. A jaw-dropping high-stakes wager is made on who bakes the best red velvet cake. As this fast-paced romp barrels toward its uproarious climax, you’ll wish your own family reunions were this much fun!

“The cheeky humor of Beane’s book comes from imposing modern sensibilities (and contemporary lingo) on timeless storybook figures.” – Marilyn Stasio, Variety
“Cinderella is a timeless inspiration for young and old alike who want their dreams to come true.” – Robin Leach, Las Vegas Sun

Leading Ladies by Ken Ludwig
May 19 - June 18, 2023
Palace Playhouse
In this hilarious comedy by the author of Lend Me A Tenor and Moon Over Buffalo, two English Shakespearean actors, Jack and Leo, find themselves so down on their luck that they are performing “Scenes from Shakespeare” on the Moose Lodge circuit in the Amish country of Pennsylvania. When they hear that an old lady in York, PA is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. The trouble is, when they get to York, they find out that the relatives aren’t nephews, but nieces! Romantic entanglements abound, especially when Leo falls head-over-petticoat in love with the old lady’s vivacious niece, Meg, who’s engaged to the local minister. Meg knows that there’s a wide world out there, but it’s not until she meets “Maxine and Stephanie” that she finally gets a taste of it.
“Ken Ludwig gives the audience something powerful and potent: laughter and a guiltless evening of theatregoing.” – Village News
“So funny, it will make sophisticated and reasonable men and women of the 21st century cackle till their faces hurt.” – Houston Press

Crazy For You

But Polly takes an instant dislike to the city slicker, so Bobby vows – through cunning, razzmatazz, and a hilarious case of mistaken identity – to win Polly’s heart and save the theatre. Memorable Gershwin tunes from the score include “I Got Rhythm,” “Naughty Baby,” “They Can’t Take That Away from Me,” “Embraceable You,” “But Not for Me,” “Nice Work If You Can Get It” and “Someone to Watch Over Me.”
