42nd Street tells the story of a young actress, Peggy Sawyer, who has come from Allentown, PA  to audition for a Broadway musical.  Peggy catches the eye of the famous director, Julian Marsh, who gives her a part in the chorus. On opening night, the star of the show falls and breaks her ankle. Can Peggy take the role and learn twenty-five pages, six songs and ten dance numbers to become a star? Don’t miss this dance spectacular that was a 1980 Tony Award-winner for Best Musical and based on the 1933 Academy Award-winning musical film.

Music and Lyrics by Sherman Edwards
Book by Peter Stone

American history blazes to vivid life in this most unconventional of Broadway hits. 1776 puts a human face on the pages of history as we see the people behind the icons: proud, frightened, uncertain, irritable, charming, often petty and ultimately noble and determined to do the right thing for a fledgling nation. This Tony award-winning musical includes songs such as “Sit Down, John,” “He Plays the Violin,” “Mama, Look Sharp,” and “Is Anybody There?”

The story of our founding belongs to us all and in an effort to open up the telling of it to everyone, the Palace plans to cast this show with actors of any gender or race. This is not your Grandfathers 1776!

Suggested rating: PG for themes of war, slavery and revolution.
