Costuming 101- $50 (includes costume)
Monday October 13, 2014
8:30 am - 4:30 pm (extended hours 7:30-5:15, no additional charge)

Join The Palace Theatre for a full day of fun learning about COSTUMING!

Pirate. Princess. Chef. Thief. Fairy. Regular Kid- You can be anyone you want to be in the theatre, but they all have one thing in common- COSTUMES!

Spend a day at the Palace Theatre learning about costuming from professionals in the field. Learn what it means to "costume" a show and how what they wear helps actors to develop their character. Take a tour of both the children's and adults' costume shops and see what we work with at the Palace.
Finally, design and make your own costume to take home!

We will start the morning with warm ups followed by a tour of both costume shops. Students will work with our professional costume and prop mistress to learn about why what you wear is important in theatre. We will also talk about shows that have minimal costuming and how that changes the experience. In the afternoon, children will be challenged to design and make their own costume pieces to take home. Sewing experience is not necessary, but students will have an opportunity to learn some basic sewing skills.

Playwriting 101- $35
Monday January 19th, 2015
8:30 am - 4:30 pm (extended hours 7:30-5:15, no additional charge)

Join The Palace Theatre for a full day of fun learning about PLAY WRITING!

Before the lights, costumes, actors, and audience, there has to be a script! Join the Palace artistic team learning what it takes to turn the story in your head into a real play.

We will start the morning talking about brainstorming and talking about play structure, characters, and conflict. Working with a teaching artist, students will break into age appropriate groups to outline and develop a short scene. In the afternoon, we will meet in groups to workshop the scenes, choosing actors to present the material onstage at the end of the day.

Technical Theatre 101- $35
Monday February 16th, 2015
8:30 am - 4:30 pm (extended hours 7:30-5:15, no additional charge)

Join The Palace Theatre for a full day of fun learning about Technical Theatre!

You know that we need actors to put on a show, but have you ever considered all of the people you DON'T SEE during the production? Spend a day with The Palace Theatre experiencing the "Backstage" of Theatre. Students will work with our professional technical team to learn about lights, sound, backdrops and costuming. Working with age-appropriate, hands on projects, they will explore all of the elements of theatre that help "set the stage" for our productions.

Morning classes will include exploration of both the sound and light booths as well as tours of the costume room and workshop. In the afternoon, students will perform an onstage karoke-style show with all technical aspects run by students. Throughout the day, Theatre professionals will discuss aspects of technology careers in the theatre.
